LSO Sing: Singing opportunities for people of all ages
The Chorus is partnering the London Symphony Orchestra in an innovative outreach project, LSO Sing, to provide singing opportunities for people of all ages, and develop their singing ability, through open singing days, youth and community choirs, and by singing alongside experienced and supportive members of the London Symphony Chorus.
Singing days allow members of the public to study, learn and perform popular choral works in an informal, enjoyable but high quality setting. Four recent singing days attracted a diverse group of 828 singers of varying ability and experience from different backgrounds, and many more who just wished to watch and listen.
When asked if they enjoyed the workshops and if they found the contribution of LSC members helpful, participants replied very positively. The following is a small selection of feedback received:
“Very much. Simon H creates a very positive, energetic atmosphere in which to work and learn, and paced the day brilliantly to the level and ability. Having LSC members in each section to encourage and support was also great.”
“The LSC were a support and enhanced the whole experience.”
“Yes this is essential. I had an LSC member next to me and it gave me great confidence.“
Forthcoming singing days will explore “African American Journey”, “A Taste of America”, “Haydn’s The Seasons”, “Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius”, “Beethoven’s Symhpony No 9 (“Choral”), and “Jazzamatazz”.
