LSC rehearsalBefore you conisder joining the LSC, you may have some questions about the way we work. This page covers a range of answer to the most common questions about LSC membership. If your question is not answered here, please get in touch using our contact form.

Do you audition?

Yes - we are always keen to accept singers who can pass an audition and indicate some musical knowledge and sight-reading ability. Auditions are held by appointment, and applicants need to bring two copies of a song to sing.

Is the LSC a professional chorus?
The Chorus is made up of amateur singers who work towards a professional standard challenged by a wide variety of music and the opportunity of working under leading conductors with some of the world's leading orchestras.

pile of choral scoresWhat is your repertoire?
The LSC regularly performs large choral works with renowned orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra. At the heart of the Chorus’ repertoire are the great choral classics such as Mahler’s Second, Third and Eighth Symphonies, Britten’s War Requiem and Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana. To get an idea of our repertoire, look at our past performances page - and, of course, our forthcoming concerts page for all our future performances.

LSC rehearsalWhen and where do you rehearse?
Chorus rehearsals are held on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6.30 to 9 pm. We use a small range of rehearsal venues, including the Bishopsgate Institute and Bloomsbury Baptist Church.

diaryHow much time do I have to commit?
Applicants do need to be available on both rehearsal nights each week. If a concert or recording is imminent, additional time is required of the members, as it is when there are several engagements in a short period of time. Our programmes are always varied and interesting.

Because of the large number of concerts and recordings undertaken by the Chorus, it would be unrealistic to expect every member to take part in everything and the Chorus therefore tries to be flexible in accommodating the needs and other commitments of its members.
